I can not believe it is already the end of the first quarter! the time is flying by and we are in full art mode, I am excited to see the Kindergarten classes again after a 5 week brake. Some of the thing we are working on right now are-

1st grade - patterns and design
2nd grade - fall leaf designs, pumpkin patterns and art centers
3rd grade - fall leaf designs, animals in my window and patterns
4th grade - Greek temples, water color and tape designs
5th grade - Greek temples and learning about the artists Frank Stella.

I hope to be posting photos soon of the amazing work the students are doing!

Welcome Back!!!

Hello UPA families and friends!
My name is Danielle Seikaly and I am so excited to be starting my 4th year as your students visual art teacher. I am a highly qualified teacher receiving my BFA from the collage For Creative Studies in Detroit, my MTTC from CCS and I am now working on my masters in Art Education from Wayne State University.
This year in the art room we will be covering it all! from cutting and glueing to more advanced works of mixing colors and 3D wood sculptures all while achieving the Michigan Visual Art Standards for each grade and having fun!

Ghamba!

On Friday the 5th grade went to the Works:Detroit Gallery to see all of the amazing elephants that school from around the city made and to see our creation with the herd.










The students did a wonderful job in such a small space. Also a big THANK YOU to the 5th grade teachers and Deon Browns mother for attending.

Art Show!

The first annual night of the arts was on Wednesday and was an amazing success!
so many people showed up for the 6th annual all school art show, poetry cafe and the 3rd graders had a recorder show case!

Donorschoose.org is a wonderful website and organization that helps school and teachers raise money for classroom supply's and special items that need funding.

I set up an account to get a new rug for the art room to define a space for reading and learning as a group and for sharing ideas with each other.
Please pass along the info to anyone who would be willing to help the cause and would like to help out our school.

A new year and new lessons for all!

Kindergarten - flower and animal drawing

1st grade - we are making books for the Kindergarten class about what it is like in the first garde.

2nd - 3 more weeks and you will have art again!

3rd - stamps! we are making our own stamps.

4th - birch tree collage.

5th - wire sculptures.

The Parade Company!


today was a momentous day in UPA art history, about 2 months ago the 4th and 5th grade students participated in a design contest for the Parade Company. It was a float design contest, the theme was "your Dream Neighborhood" one of our 4th grade students, Romance Keycer, won an honorable mention. out of hundreds of drawing, Romance and 4 other students got an honorable mention and one student got the grand prize, their drawing was turned into a larger than life float for the Thanksgiving Parade on Woodward Ave.

2nd 6 week change

It is now the start of the 2nd 6 weeks of school! that means AMPT changes, and KINDERGARTEN!!!! today Ms. Josephson's class was very good and had a lot to say about the art room, we also talked about shapes and colors and the class room procedures. The whole class did a wonderful job fallowing directions and staying in there seats! good job guys!

Ghamba is coming along!


The 5th grade classes are working hard to get Ghamba (Mrs. Tiggs class named him) ready for his debut at Marry Grover College.






They are using an art past that will dry clear so that they recycled news paper will be abele to be seen.
